What a week it has been for Kenya and Africa at large. Just hours after the greatest Marathoner of all time Eliud Kipchoge made history in Vienna, Austria, his compatriot Brigid Kosgei has also made history, this time in Chicago at the Chicago Marathon.

Kosgei has smashed Paula Radcliffe’s women’s marathon world record to become the new women’s world marathon record holder.

She achieved the feat in 2 hours, 14 minutes and 04 seconds.

Her feat saw here ease Britain’s Paula Radcliffe time of 2:15:25 set on April 13, 2003 in London.

It is also a course record also erasing Radcliffe’s time of 2:17:18 set in October 13, 2002.

Following her achievements in Chicago, Kosgei has received congratulatory messages from all over the world and her Kenyan people have not been left behind.


Deputy President William Ruto and AU High Envoy for Infrastructure Raila Odinga led Kenyans in celebrating Kosgei’s success in Chicago.

“Hearty Congratulations to Brigid Kosgei for setting a new women’s world record of 2:14:04, and triumphantly defending your 2018 Chicago Marathon title,” Posted Ruto on His Official Twitter Account.

On his Part, Raila Odinga stated that Kosgei’s win helped cement Kenya’s place as a dominant powerhosue in distance running.

“Congratulations Brigid Kosgei on breaking the Women’s Marathon World Record in Chicago. We are extremely proud of your victory that has made Kenya a conqueror on both sides of the Atlantic this weekend. This cements our nation’s place as the dominant powerhouse in distance running,” Said Raila.

The whispers all week in Chicago had been that Kosgei was intending to make a serious assault on Radcliffe’s time, something she was able to achieve.
