Al Duhail SC executive director Adnan Al Ali has described Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga as an important player to his side as the club prepares for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Ali also noted that while the task ahead will not be an easy one, he has confidence in his players. Al Duhail will take on African Champions Al Ahly with a win setting up a clash between them and European giants Bayern Munich in the Semi-finals.

“We have included a number of players to strengthen the ranks , and among them professionals as Ali Karimi and Michael Olunga , and they are an important addition to the team that is preparing to represent the country in this important championship” said Ali. .

“The match against Al Ahly will be difficult , but our preparations for this championship will be different from our preparations for the local championships, and we have a match in the Amir cup against Al Ahly Qatrai team , and this match will be part of our preparations for the clubs world cup championship” he added.

Al Duhail got a ticket to the football showpiece after New Zealand’s Auckland City withdrew following a number of travel restrictions in their country. The team will go to camp to step up on preparations.

“After the withdrawal of the New Zealand team and reaching the second stage of the championship , we have decided to take the team in a closed camp starting from 1st February , which is a good period to prepare the players before Al Ahly confrontation and we trust the ability of the technical staff to prepare the players technically and physically for this confrontation” said Adnan.

“We are the host team for this championship , and we hope to appear in it honorably and achieve a positive result in it , and if we succeeded in overcoming Al Ahly Egyptian team , we will have a confrontation with Bayern Munich , the champion of the champions league, which is definitely a difficult confrontation , but we depend on the abilities of our players and their technical abilities to appear in the way that expresses the Qatari football “

“Al Sadd club hosted the last version of the championship , and this will be the last edition hosted by Qatar , and we certainly hope that our participation will be positive and that we achieve our goals of participating in it and appear in as required”.

The FIFA Club World Cup usually takes place in December but was moved to February with the opening match set for 4th.

Education City and Ahmad Bin Ali Stadiums will host the tournament.
