Defending Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have thanked Mombasa politician and businessman Suleiman Shahbal for facilitating their accommodation ahead of their FKF Betway Cup match against Congo Boys.
The match will be played on Sunday, May 23 at the Mbaraki grounds with kick-off time set for 1 PM.
“We are on our way to Mombasa for tomorrow’s match – we should be there shortly -all players are in good shape. Our appreciation goes to Hon. Suleiman Shahbal for the big support – offering to take care of accommodation cost” said Gor’s team manager Jolawi Obondo.
On his end, Shahbal stated that the match will be of great value to the Mombasa based Congo boys and as such it was only right that he helped Gor Mahia honour it.
“Gor Mahia’s management called me seeking help on accommodation, and because I was aware of their match against Congo Boys, which will give our coast boys the much-needed exposure, I thought it was only fair to help Gor Mahia honour this match as one way of supporting sports in this country,” Shahbal told the Nation.
The Betway cup provides Gor Mahia with a shot at silverware and a chance to represent the country at the CAF Confederation cup next season.
Should Gor beat Congo boys on Sunday, they will face CUSCO in the round of 32 fixtures set to be played on June 1, and June 2, 2021. Winners in this round will then proceed to the round of 16 action that will be played on June 5, and June 6, 2021.
The remaining teams will proceed to the quarterfinals that will be held on June 9, and June 10, 2021 with the semifinals following on June 12, and June 13, 2021.
Dates for the finals of the Betway Cup are yet to be made official by FKF.
