FIFA Secretary General, Ms Fatma Samoura is set to visit Kenya this week. The football chief will spend two days in the country and will attend the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League Cecafa Qualifiers finals at the Nyayo Stadium.
Kenya’s Vihiga Queens will square it off with Ethiopia’s CBE FC on Thursday, September 9, 2021, for a chance to represent the region in the Champions League.
Ms. Samoura is also expected to hold talks with the football leadership in the country.
Confirming Samoura’s visit, FKF President Nick Mwendwa said:
“We welcome the FIFA Secretary General to Kenya. We look forward to hosting her and engaging her about the development of the game in Kenya”.
On her end, FKF Vice President and Local Organizing Committee Chairperson for the CECAFA Champions League qualifiers Doris Petra said that Samoura’s visit marks a big week for women’s football.
“This is a big week for us in the Women’s game. Our clubs are taking part in regional and continental competitions for the first time and we are pleased to share this moment with the Secretary General,” she said.
Samoura will be accompanied by FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer Sarai Barema in what is her first ever visit to Kenya since her appointment as FIFA’s Secretary General in 2016.
The two are on a South and East African tour with an aim of highlighting FIFA’s commitment to developing the female game throughout the continent.
