Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has blocked the highly anticipated international friendly between Gor Mahia and Sudanese giants Al Hilal.

In a letter addressed to chairman Ambrose Rachier, FKF has noted that Gor has Premier League obligations and can therefore not be allowed to travel out of the country for the clash.

“Reference is made to your letter dated December 8,2020 with regard to a friendly match between Gor Mahia F.C and Al Hilal Sports Club, scheduled to take place on December 16, 2020 in Sudan” read a letter by FKF.

“In this regard, and as you are aware, we wish to inform you that FKF Premier League is ongoing and your club has a match against Tusker FC scheduled for Wednesday, December 16, 2020”.

“Consequently, we regret to inform you that it will not be possible for you to travel to Sudan from December 14, 2020 to December 17,2020” the letter added.

According to an earlier statement by Gor Mahia, the friendly was to be used as part of their preparations for the upcoming CAF Champions League clash against Algerian side CR Belouizdad later this month.

“Pending approval by Football Kenya Federation, we are set to fly out on Monday next week to Khartoum, Sudan to play a high profile friendly match against Al Hilal on Wednesday as part of our preparation for continental matches,” Gor said in an earlier statement.

The latest setback to Gor comes at a time when FKF has cracked the whip on a number of clubs for failing to endorse a media and commercial rights deal between the federation and StarTimes.

Disciplinary proceedings have also been opened against Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier for allegedly bringing the game of football in the country into disrepute.
