As Gor Mahia prepare to take on Division Two side Cambridge Universal College, better known as CUSCO, they know too well that the clash set for Ruaraka grounds will not be a walk in the park.

K’Ogallo has recently not had a great run in the cup competition. The Vaz Pinto coached side has been knocked out on penalties in four of the last six tournaments, including three consecutive penalty shootout losses in 2017, 2018 & 2019.

Of Cup Competitions and Underdogs:

They say anything can happen in a cup match and with this in mind, CUSCO head coach Patrick Odipo believes his side can cause a major upset and eliminate Gor Mahia just like their counterparts GFE, another Eldoret based side did in 2014.

“GFE beat Gor in 2014 and we are under pressure from our fans to replicate the performance. However, we believe if GFE 105 did it, we can do it too,” Odipo told the Star.

CUSCO made it to round 32 after beating Black Diamond on post-match penalties to progress while Gor beat Congo Boys 3-0.

Gor hope they can finally win the cup for the first time since 2012 when they beat Sofapaka to win it back to back.

The winner of the Thursday clash will face Mara Sugar.

Round of 16 games have been set for June 5, and June 6, 2021.

Between June 9, and June 10, 2021, the quarterfinals will follow, and the semifinals will take place between June 12, and June 13, 2021.

Winner of the Betway cup will pocket 2 million shillings and will get a chance to represent the country at the CAF Confederations.
