Kenya’s Lawrence Juma and Fredrick Odhiambo bagged their first trophy with As Kigali of Rwanda after the Nyamirambo based side beat rivals APR 5-3 on post match penalties to win the Rwandese Super Cup.
APR were the first to have a shot at goal but missed a glorious chance to take the lead from the spot in the 27th minute with Ntwari Fiacre saving Byiringiro Lague’s penalty.
The match ended 0-0 in regular time and even at extra time, no team found the back of the net.
Former Sofapaka man Juma was introduced in the second half while keeper Odhiambo did not make the matchday squad.
AS Kigali players held their nerve during the penalty shoot-out to record a third consecutive win over APR under coach Mbungo.
“This victory is a good thing for the morale of my players. I hope they will take advantage of it to start the championship well” said Casa Mbungo after the win.
The new season of the Rwanda National Football League will begin on Friday, August 19, 2022.
Apart from Juma and Odhiambo, As Kigali signed 8 more players, with former Gor Mahia man Jacques Tuyisenge also joining the side.
