Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia began their 2021/22 FKFPL campaign with a 2-1 win over bankers KCB in a match played at the Thika Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gor Mahia opened the scoring through teenage sensation Benson Omalla who started ahead of both Jules Ulimwengu & Yangayay Sando in attack.

Omalla found the back of the net just 7 minutes into the first half and doubled his tally two minutes later to send Gor 2-0 up in 9 minutes.

Gor’s Sammy Onyango had an attempt towards goal hit the crossbar and an alert Omalla was quick to pounce on the rebound for his first of the afternoon.

New boy Peter Lwasa then turned provider with his great delivery from a corner kick finding Omalla who headed home for his second.

A mistake from captain Harun Shakava helped KCB pull one back in the 23rd minute through Henry Onyango.

The match went to half-time with Gor in front. In the second half, Congolese import Sando Yangayay replaced Omalla for his debut in the green colours.

He could however not inpsire more goals for Gor with KCB also failing to find the back of the net.

Gor held on to record a morale boosting 2-1 win over the bankers after their disastrous league campaign last season.
