Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly are the Total CAF Champions League 2020 winners. This is after beating Zamalek FC 2-1 to win their 9th African title.

Pitso’s win means he has had the better of the white Knights twice. He first beat Zamalek with Mamelodi Sundowns and has repeated that with the Red Devils- Al Ahly.

Al Ahly took the lead early in the first half through a 5th minute header by Amr El Soleya. They then dictated things but Zamalek turned things around in the 31st minute through a sublime goal by their captain Shikabala. The 34 year old had a great run to the Al Ahly box before unleashing a thunderbolt that brought his side level.

From there, the match was balanced with both sides heading to the break level.

In the second half, Zamalek almost took the lead through Elshahat (54) and Zizou (65) whose fine strike from outside the box hit the post.

Al Ahly then punished Zamalek for failing to convert their chances later on in the game when they took the lead through Mohamed Magdi Afsha in the 86th minute. His fine volley proved to be the match-winner for the Red Devils who confirmed just why they are Africa’s club of the century.

Pitso is arguably one of the best coaches to come out of Africa and his masterclass was once again manifested tonight as he won his second CAF Champions League title
