Harambee Stars and KAA Gent defender Joseph Okumu has been linked with a move to Italian Serie A side Atalanta.

Okumu has been a subject of transfer speculations in recent weeks with Scottish champions Celtic and Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund rumored to be keen on the 25-year-old centre-forward despite one-and-a-half season at Belgian side Gent.

According to the Italian publication, Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta is closely monitoring Okumu’s Gent situation but facing stiff competition from Colombian Janer Lucumi; Janer club is currently in the market for a defender to replace Juventus-bound Merih Demiral.

Okumu who is currently valued at {4.5m euros/KES 552m} as per transfer market has three years left on his current Gent contract.

Okumu began his football journey with Kenyan Premier League club Chemelil Sugar FC before moving to South Africa with Free States FC Stars.

Okumu then joined AFC Ann Arbor and Real Monarchs before making stunning Europe move with Swedish side Elfsborg in 2019.
