Cabinet Secretary in the ministry of Sports Amb. Amina Mohamed has appointed an advisory committee to help plan and advise on the return of sporting activities in the country.

Various sporting events in the country have been suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 18- member committee is chaired by Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Hon. Hassan Noor Hassan. It has been mandated to engage all key stakeholders including but not limited to sports organizations and collect their views on resuming sporting activities.

The committee has also been tasked with reviewing the global trends in the resumption of sporting activities.

It will also recommend protocols that should be applied while resuming while at the same time reviewing and recommending any other matter that may affect resumption.

The Director General of sports,Mr. Pius Metto is expected to provide the secretariat for the committee’s activities while a report is expected by 10th July, 2020.

The 2020 sporting calendar was hugely affected with major events including the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Euro 2020, major city marathons, African Nations Championship 2020 all being suspended or postponed.

Locally, the Kenya Premier League, Safari Rally, Rugby and athletics have all been suspended.

With some sporting activities in different parts of the world resuming but without fans, Kenya could also follow suit but only if the right measures are put in place.
