Betking Premier League side Wazito FC have confirmed the appointment of Fred Ambani as the club’s new head coach.
Ambani takes over from coach Stewart Hall who left the Ricardo Badoer owned side back in July. He will be assisted by Salim Babu.
This will be Ambani’s second stint as Wazito head coach having led the team in the National Super League and for the first few matches of the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League campaign.
Upon confirmation of his appointment, Ambani thanked the club for once again believing in him.
“I want to thank the club management for believing in me once again. Wazito is a team that is so dear to me and I am looking forward to getting started. My target is to work with everyone at the club to ensure that the team is successful,” he said.
With Salim Babu coming in as Ambani’s assistant, Wazito get themselves a well experienced coach with a winning mentality in the Kenyan football scene.
Before his appointment at Wazito, Babu served as Western Stima’s head coach.
He began his coaching career at Sony Sugar where he started out as an assistant coach after hanging his boots. He was later elevated to the position of head coach. He later moved to Migori Youth before settling at Stima.
Ambani and Babu played together during their playing days at Sony Sugar FC.
“Joining Wazito is a great opportunity because I am joining a team with big ambitions and I want to be successful here. My role is that of an assistant coach and my duty is to help the head coach, that is what I will stick to”.
“Fred (Ambani) has been my friend for many years, we played together and even as coaches we have been exchanging notes frequently, when he asked me to join him it was an easy decision to make. I believe together we will move this team forward,” Babu told the Wazito FC Website.
Salim Babu’s Western Stima finished last season at position 7 while Wazito FC were 13th.
With the two now working together, a change of fortunes is expected at the Aidos Kuneen sponsored side.
