Arsenal have agreed to let Hector Bellerin leave on a free transfer,
as first reported by The Athletic.
Bellerin is set to depart pending paperwork, with the 27-year-old awaiting permission to travel to Spain.Bellerin has agreed to join Barcelona and will be taking a pay cut to make the move possible. He has also waived any payments he was owed by Arsenal.
After falling out of favour at Arsenal, Bellerin spent last season on loan in La Liga, making 32 appearances for Real Betis as they qualified for the Europa League.Barcelona were in need of a right-back, with Dani Alves leaving the club in the summer.USMNT international Sergino Dest, meanwhile, is in Milan as he looks to secure a move away from the Camp Nou.
Barcelona head coach Xavi had used Sergi Roberto, Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde as right-backs so far in La Liga this season, none of whom are natural in the position.Bellerin had featured for Arsenal in pre-season, even captaining them on occasion, but did not make a matchday squad in five games under Mikel Arteta once the Premier League kicked off.Arsenal are well-stocked in the right-back department, with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Cedric and Ben White all options for manager Mikel Arteta.Bellerin joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2011 and made 239 appearances for the north London club.He is a three-time FA Cup winner with Arsenal, having lifted the trophy in 2015, 2017 and 2020.
