Arsenal have announced the signing of Benjamin White from Brighton and Hove Albion for a reported £50 million. It took three attempts to seal the switch, with Brighton having held firm by rejecting bids of £40 million and then £47 million with various add-ons.

White was part of the England squad that finished second at the recently concluded EURO 2020. The Englishman, off the back of a superb season at the Amex is notably quite good with the ball at his feet and has a good reading of the game. A roll-royce of a defender as described by those who have watched his development closely.

Manager Mikel Arteta said, “Ben is an intelligent defender who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his style fits perfectly with us. And of course, he is still young, so his age and profile fits with what we are building here.”

Technical director Edu said,”Ben has been a key target this summer. He has so many qualities which make us so excited he’s joining us. Ben’s a young English player with a great future. He’s very strong defensively, good on the ball with a great passing range.”

Ben White becomes the third summer arrival and the the third most expensive player in Arsenal’s history. He will wear shirt number 4 and has signed a contract until 2026.

White had this to say after signing,“I don’t think I needed too much connvincing to be fair. Arsenal speaks for itself.”
