Gor Mahia striker Benson Omalla struck in injury time to give Kenya under 20 a hard fought 2-1 win over a resilient Sudan.
After a goalless first half, the Rising Stars were first to take a well deserved lead through Fortune Omoto midway through the second half.
However, the goal seems to have jolted the Sudanese boys as they camped in the Kenyan half. Their efforts paid off with an equaliser coming in the 83rd minute setting up a very tense finish.
But Omalla ensured Kenya finished on top of Group C with a well taken goal in the second minute of injury time. The striker has now scored two goals in as many matches.
Kenya has now qualified for the semifinals of the CECAFA under 20 tournament and are in contention for their first-ever appearance at the AFCON Championship slated for next year.
Hosts Tanzania were the first team t o qualify after thrashing Somalia 8-1 on Thursday. The Ngorongoro Heroes are the most inform team in the competition, having beaten Djibouti 5-0 in the opening match.
Kenya lost last year’s final 1-0 to Tanzania. A revenge will be on coach Stanley Okumbi’s boys as the tournament progresses.
