Gor Mahia players are very positive ahead of their highly anticipated CAF Champions League clash against Algerian side Belouizdad.
Gor head into the match after a League defeat at the hands of brewers Tusker FC. The club has also had to make do with lots of financial challenges but even that seem not to have dampened the spirit of the playing unit.
According to assistant captain Philemon Otieno, the team is focused and ready for the task ahead.
“Despite our mid-week loss to Tusker, our preparation for away CAF match in Algeria has been good. We are focused and ready to give our best in the first leg then come back to finish the job at home” said Otieno.
Defender Joachim Oluoch is also optimistic of getting a good result.
“We have been training and we are hopeful we will come back from Algeria with good results. They (Belouizdad) are a good side but we are ready for them” he said.
Assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo has also stated that they are hopeful of getting positive results.
“l know it’s going to be a tough match (against Belouizdad). It’s going to be a very tactical game but with good game plan, we will get positive results” said Odhiambo.
Gor booked a date with the Algerian side after seeing off APR of Rwanda 4-3 on aggregate in the first Preliminary round.
The team has had a bad run in Algeria but will be hoping to put in a great show against Belouizdad.
Gor will be hoping they can see off ‘Le Grand Chabab’ and later put the last nail on their coffin when they visit Nairobi for the return leg.
Belouizdad will only be the third Algerian side Gor Mahia has faced, previously facing USM Algers (drawn 1, lost 3) and NA Hussein Day (won 1 lost 1).
CR Belouizdad was fouded in 1962 and has played in the Algerian top league for 55 seasons and won the Algerian league six times.
They won their last League game 2-0 when they faced NA Hussein Dey. It will however not be a walk in the park when they come up against Gor Mahia side looking to break the North African jinx.
