AFC Leopards have been far from good in their first two FKF Premier League Matches.
They conceded first against Tusker and were it not for Bidco United’s wastefulness in front of goal, they would faced a similar fate.
However, they still managed to find a way to win all the two matches and that is the most important stat. Big teams find a way of winning even when not at their best. I imagine Ingwe is still a big team in Kenyan football.
One man has stood out in those two matches. His name is Elvis Rupia. The former Wazito FC striker bagged a brace against Bidco to take an early lead in the race for the top scorer’s chart.
Rupia’s second goal was marvelous. He latched onto a long pass before looping the ball beyond the rushing Bidco goalkeeper. A ‘Youtube goal!’
Citizen TV’s Sports Journalist Benard Ndong said the goal should be a contender for this season’s Puskas awards.
Sunday’s brace means Rupia has scored 9 goals in 9 matches since Joining Leopards in January.
Ingwe signed the player from Wazito on loan to replace versatile forward John Makwatta who decamped to ZESCO united in the January transfer window.
Rupia was rotting on the Wazito bench before Ingwe came calling. The club has always coveted the player since his time at Nzoia United where he scored 15 goals in the 2018 season. He joined Power Dynamoes in the mid season, a deal that turned out to be a disaster.
Two years later, and the striker could be the man to lead Leopards to a first league title in 22 years. However, Ingwe chairman Dan Shikanda must first ensure that he is not tempted by better offers abroad in the coming months.
