Chelsea have reached an agreement for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Marc Cucurella for £52.5 million. The deal will also see Chelsea youngster Lewis Colwill move in the opposite direction in a separate deal.

The Spaniard will travel to London to complete a medical before 6-year deal until 2028. Cucurella joined Brighton last season from Getafe for a reported fee of £15 million.

Chelsea are looking to rebuild their defence. They have signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and their attempts to bring in a right-sided defender to compete with Reece James has led them to target Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters and Internazionale’s Denzel Dumfries.

Cucurella was subject to serious interest from Manchester City with the Premier League champions refusing to pay more than £40 million.
