Fans of Gor Mahia have a reason to smile. This is after head coach Hassan Oktay confirmed that legendary striker Dennis Oliech will still be part of his squad heading into next season.
There have been fears that Oliech’s future at Gor Mahia is not certain with the foward missing a number of Kogallo’s activities that included the KPL title coronation ceremony in Machakos last season.
Oliech was also missing in Rwanda during Gor Mahia’s Cecafa Kagame Cup Campaign. This might be attributed to the fact that the former Auxxere striker could still have been recovering from an injury he got last season in a match against Western Stima.
Gor Mahia’s decision to rope in Ivorian hit man Gislein Yikpe Gnamian from Sporting Club Gagnoa further fueled talks that Oliech will not play a major role at the Club come next season should he continue to ply his trade there.
Coach Oktay has now come out to assure Gor Mahia faithfuls that Oliech will still be at the club next season and will as a matter of fact play a major role as the club aims to defend it’s title and take part in Continental assignments.
“Oliech is in my plans for the new season,” Oktay told Goal.
“I still need Oliech and he knows the same, we will use him again and we already named him in the squad for the Caf Champions League.
“It shows you we are banking on him again for the new season and he will be part of us.”
Oktay’s charges will begin their Champions League journey against Aigle Noir CS who bagged the 2018/19 Burundi Premier League title with 68 points from 30 matches. The aggregate winner of the first round will meet either USM Algers of Algeria or Niger’s SONIDEP in the second round.
