Gor Mahia head coach Steven Pollack is upbeat heading into the KPL Super Cup clash pitting his side against dockers Bandari FC.
Gor Mahia and Bandari will clash at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday, 18th August in a KPL season curtain raiser.
Ahead of the clash, Gor Mahia’s Finnish-English coach Steven Pollack is very optimistic and has huge faith in his players.
Pollack has said that the Super Cup clash is important for Gor Mahia and as such they will give their all to win. The coach also revealed that legendary striker Dennis Oliech will make the matchday squad as he steps up his recovery process from an injury he got last season in a KPL match against Western Stima.
“I have watched them play and therefore I have prepared the lads well. Cup finals are important games and the players are aware of this. We have to start the season positively and therefore this game is very important. We are going for a win,” Said Pollack as quoted by Nation Sports.
On Oliech, Pollack confirmed that the former AJ Auxxere man will get some few minutes under his belt.
“I am aware he is coming back from a lengthy lay-off and therefore we cannot rush him. He will be introduced for a few minutes hopefully until he is in perfect condition,” he said.
Pollack has already taken charge of one official match as Gor Mahia coach. He was in the dugout as Kogallo played to a barren draw against Aigle Noir CS in a CAF Champions League match played in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The 58 year old has hailed the quality of players at his disposal in Kogallo while at the same time admitting that the team was starting to gel well under him.
“I have been with the team for slightly over a week now and I have seen it improve in every training session. The chemistry is coming up well and the players are now getting to understand how I want the team to play. We are getting better and that is very key for me from the onset,” Pollack told Nation Sport.
Gor Mahia and Bandari will renew their rivalry that saw them dominate KPL in the 2018-19 season. The Steven Polack-led side lifted the KPL trophy after bagging 72 points while the Bernard Mwalala-led team finished as the runners-up after securing 64 points.
Sunday’s Super Cup duel will be the 43rd meeting between the two KPL sides in all competitions – 1st meeting was in 1986 Moi Golden Cup final. The Green Army have won 21 times, Bandari 8, with 13 matches ending in draws. Gor Mahia have scored a total of 43 goals while Bandari have scored 21.
