Nairobi region representatives Dagoretti High School defeated Nyanza region representatives Kisumu Day 2-0 in a Pool B match played at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Wednesday morning.
The result saw Dagoretti qualify for the semis having beaten Mbooni in their opening match on Tuesday. Kisumu Day, on the other hand, were knocked out of the tournament as they lost to Ebwali in the opener on Tuesday.
Kutela Zablon scored the opening goal of the match in the 56th minute from the penalty spot after a Kisumu Day defender committed a foul inside the penalty area before Mohammed Hamdi added a second in stoppage time.
Dagoretti started the game on a high with Kutela Zablon, Derrick Omondi and Simon Omondi in midfield running the show. Kisumu was reduced to defending early in the game.
They got two early chances but Chacha Samson and Paul Odhiambo failed to trouble Kisumu Day keeper John Muiruri shooting over the bar.
Kisumu Day slowly grew into the game and had two chances that fell to Aldine Otieno on the right flank but the winger wasted both chances whilst unmarked.
The game slowly grew to an end to end affair with both teams attacking with vigor. Benson Oluoch was Kisumu Day’s main attacking threat while Odoyo Washington was Dagoretti’s main threat. The first half ended barren.
A minute into the second half, Dagoreti nearly went up through Paul Odhiambo but his shot from the edge of the area came off the upright with Kisumu keeper Muiruri well beaten.
Ten minutes later, Kisumu Day took the lead through Kutela Zablon who converted from the spot after a KD keeper committed a foul inside the penalty area.
The goal motivated them further and they went all out in search of more goals. Simon Omondi and Hamdi Mohamed threw away great chances from good scoring positions.
15 minutes from time, Hamdi threw the easiest chance of the game shooting directly at the keeper from a yard out. Muiruri collected his feeble shot with ease.
Hamdi finally got his goal a minute from time heading home from close range to send Kisumu Day crashing.
