Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia have confirmed that dependable defender Philemon Otieno is set to undergo a knee surgery in France. This will see the Harambee Stars defender miss up to three months of football action as he recovers from his injury.

Otieno sustained a cruciate ligament injury during the Kenya-Tanzania CHAN match played in Nairobi’s Kasarani Stadium. He will fly out to France next week for the surgical procedure with Football Kenya Federation covering all the costs.

“Defender Philemon Otieno out of action for close to 3 months due to a knee injury (cruciate ligament) sustained during the Kenya-Tanzania CHAN match. Philemon is due to fly to France next week for surgery courtesy of Football Kenya Federation,” Read a statement seen by Sportsplug from Gor Mahia.

With his injury, Otieno will sit out of Gor Mahia’s crucial CAF Champions League match against Burundian Champions Aige Noir CS.

 The first batch of players from Aigle Noir arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday with the other batch expected to touch down the Kenyan Capital on Thursday ahead of the crucial match on Sunday.
