Business man and politician Eliud Owalo has announced that he is not interested in any position at Gor Mahia.

Owalo’s announcement comes following calls from a section of fans for him to run for the club’s chairmanship.

Gor Mahia are set to elect new officials on August 8th with four positions up for grabs. They are: Chairman, vice chairman, secretary general and Honorary treasurer. The upcoming polls will be held according to the provisions of the club’s new constitution.

Owalo has now made it clear that he is not interested in any position in the club. According to the former Kibra MP aspirant, he is happy being an ordinary member of the club and will keep helping out the team whenever he can.

“Based on persistent inquiries from the Media, Gor Mahia fans and Members of the Public in general in the recent past, I wish to clarify as follows, ” he started.

“That I’m neither interested in the Chairmanship of Gor Mahia FC nor any other position in the Club for that matter, both during the forthcoming general elections and in the foreseeable future”.

“For the record, I’ve been a fan of the Club since the 1980’s,and I’m happy being and remaining an ordinary but committed member of the Gor Mahia family”.

“Granted, I do provide some material support once in a while to the Club depending on unfolding events from time to time, but this should not be misconstrued to imply I’m interested in any leadership position at the club” he added.

Owalo said that Kenyans need to change their mindset of anticipating something in return once they provide help. Calling it a retrogressive culture, he called on Kenyans to support various initiatives through genuine commitment as opposed to egocentric interests.

Owalo recently treated Gor Mahia players and the technical bench to a luncheon at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

He gave out Kshs. 250k as a token of appreciation to the playing unit and Technical bench.
