Former Arsenal defender is set to join Brazilian club Flamengo on a free transfer. A verbal agreement has been reached and here we go! The Brazilian centre back has accepted the contract proposal until December 2022.

David Luiz has reportedly snubbed moves to both Ligue 1 and Serie A since leaving Arsenal on a free transfer this summer as he continues the search for his next club. The centre-back departed the Emirates in July after the club decided not to extend his contract, keen to get his £100,000-a-week salary off their wage bill, and he has since been on the lookout for the next chapter in his career.

Newly promoted Serie A outfit Salernitana also tried their luck – hoping their high profile arrival Franck Ribery might help persuade Luiz to make the move – but he turned down their advances too, according to the claims.

Luiz now wants to win a league title in his native Brazil after winning league titles in England, France and Portugal.
