Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia are in the race to sign hotshot Benson Omalla from Western Stima.
Stima are already in negotiations with Kogallo. This was confirmed by chairman Laban Jobita who stated that the club cannot prevent players from leaving.
”I can never hold onto players and at Stima we have a history of releasing our best players if they want to leave. Contact has been made and we are on the negotiating table”.
Omalla is seen by many as the future goal machine for Harambee Stars. According to Western Stima head coach Salim Babu, the youngster from Kisumu Day is disciplined and has a great work ethic to help make him one of the finest strikers ever from Kenya.
Omalla was named the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Player of the Month for December 2019 having scored five goals and also becoming the first Western Stima player to ever score a hat trick (against Zoo Fc) in a league match. In total, he has had 8 goals in 11 appearances for Stima.
He draws inspiration from Michael Olunga and with a move to Gor now on the cards, he will be following in the footsteps of the now Kashiwa Reysol man.
“I admire many strikers in Kenyan football, led by the likes of Dennis Oliech, but my favourite is Michael Olunga, his skills, his movement with the ball and his timing is something I love watching frequently and I try to emulate that on the pitch, ” Omalla told Citizen Digital.
Western Stima has never shied away from doing business with Kogallo. The Salim Babu led side has had players like Kenneth Muguna, Bernard Ondiek and Joash Onyango all join Kogallo.
With the side now not having a sponsor following a decision by KPLC to end its sponsorship, a deal for Omalla will likely be agreed sooner.
