High flying Kenyan forward Wilson Waweru has penned a two year deal at Irish second division side Galway United.

The striker, who joined the club’s academy in 2017 has continued to excel in Ireland, scoring three league goals last season.

“The exciting 19-year-old attacker, who is a #GUFC academy graduate, showed his promise last season, contributing three goals in United’s impressive end of season run,” the club said in a statement.

Waweru said he is ready to go again for next season as the club seeks promotion to the top division.

“I really enjoyed my football last season. When John came in, you could see we were hungry to get results and we went on a great run then. I feel like for next season my job is to keep progressing by getting into the starting lineup as much as possible,” Waweru said.

Galway United manager John Caulfield tipped Waweru to improve further in the coming season.

“We all know he’s a tremendously talented player, he’s got a very good touch and real raw pace. He’s a young player, so there are still aspects he needs to add to his game, but he has the potential to be a top player and he wants to learn and improve,” Caulfield said.

Galway finished 5th in last season’s League of Ireland First Division. They qualified for the play-offs but the finals to Longford Town.
