The Mashemeji Derby that is set to be played this weekend venue has been confirmed. The Derby pitting arch-rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards will be played in Kisumu.

The tie had earlier been scheduled for the Jomo Kenyatta International Grounds in Kisumu but according to Ms. Linda Ogutu, FKF Caretaker Committee head of Secretariat, the mouthwatering clash is set for Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

“Gor Mahia indicated two weeks ago that the game will be in Kisumu and that was granted. Gor is the home team so they pick the venue. They can’t play in Nyayo or Kasarani {due to a ban} and Kisumu as always been their second home ground,” Ms. Linda Ogutu, FKF Caretaker Committee Secretariat.

The organizers of the match had earlier issued contradicting information on where Kenya’s largest game will be played from since President Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon Raila Odinga amongst the big names expected to attend the tie.

The match pits Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards which are arguably, Kenya’s most successful clubs. K’Ogalo are the hosts for the weekend fixture while Ingwe being the visitors.

Ingwe have not beaten Gor Mahia since February 2016 and will be walking into the match looking to break the curse. Leopards are enjoying a good run of form under Belgian tactician Patrick Aussems. They beat KCB FC 2-1 in their weekend outing.

They have only lost one game in their last 13 games. Meanwhile, Gor Mahia under German coach Andreas Spier,  have failed in their pursuit to reclaim their FKF Premier League glory second seasons in a row.

K’Ogalo are currently fifth on the log with 46 points, 10 points off League leaders Kakamega Homeboyz and 8 points above Leopards who sit 10th with 38 points.
