Mathare United Football Club CEO Jacktone Obure has rubbished claims that they have sold the club to a new investor.

The 2009 Kenya Premier League champions have been struggling financially recently and there have been speculations that the club had changed its ownership after handing their second successive walkover against Ulinzi Stars.

The Slum Boys a week ago officially indicated that they would not honour their fixture against Bandari FC due financial struggles and made it well known by not showing up for the game with the same format repeating against Ulinzi Stars in last weekend fixture.

But as quoted by Pepeta Sports, Mathare CEO said:

“The club is not for sale and the rumors’ are baseless. We had stated the financial position of the club a week ago and that’s where we stand as of now.”

Mathare take on Sofapaka in their next outing and it remains to be seen if they honour the fixture as they risk being relegated from the top-tier should they fail to show up for the game.

They are currently rocked bottom of the table with just 11 points after 28 outings.
