While a number of players have in the past jumped at the opportunity of joining record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia for a chance to grace continental football, KCB FC’s new signing James Mazembe was not moved by that.
Mazembe was at some poised to join Gor Mahia but later decided to sign for KCB after parting ways with Kariobangi Sharks.
The 23-year old has now revealed that the ambitions of KCB as a club and a conversation he had with head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno were enough to convince him to sign for the Bankers.
“My heart was with KCB, I know Gor Mahia will playing continental football in the coming season but that was not enough motivation to join them because I want to achieve that with KCB” Mazembe told Mozzart Sport.
“KCB is a good team you can see how they have grown over the past few years so I think I made the right decision to join them and hopefully we will win something together” he added.
The talented winger has sets his sights on hitting more career milestones with KCB having scored two goals and providing 11 assists in the 2020/21 FKFPL season.
“I want to add more assists this season than I did in the last season, the players at KCB are of quality, I cannot imagine that I will be playing with (Michael) Mutinda and Rio (Brian Ochieng’).
“I held talks with coach Zico and I saw that we have similar ambitions because I want to grow and develop as a player,” he added.
Apart from Gor Mahia, Mazembe was also linked with a move to Wazito FC.
Mazembe has signed a two-year deal with KCB.
