Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad. The deal is worth in the region of £60million (€71.2m) and the striker’s move to St James’ Park is now thought to be imminent. The move will see the 22-year-old Sweden international become Newcastle’s record signing, ahead of Bruno Guimaraes, who joined the club from Lyon, and Joelinton, who moved from Hoffenheim.

Isak had previously been linked to Arsenal and is regarded as one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe. He has scored 33 in 105 La Liga appearances since moving to Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and starred for Sweden at Euro 2020 last summer. In total he has 9 goals in 37 international appearances. He will become Newcastle’s fourth senior signing of the summer after moves for Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.
