Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi has handed the Captain’s armband to Kashiwa Reysol Striker Michael Olunga ahead of the Kenya-Uganda Friendly.
Olunga will be deputized by Gor Mahia assistant captain Joash Onyango. Kenya will take on Uganda in an international friendly match on Sunday 8 September at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.
Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama will miss the clash as he still recovering from an injury after his failed moves away from Tottenham during the just ended Transfer window.
According to Kimanzi, his decision to hand Wanyama the armband was influenced by the Strikers experience in the National team with the former Gor Mahia man being one of the most experienced players in the squad.
“When you don’t have your regular captain, you have to look around among your most experienced players and Olunga stands out on that aspect. That is among the reasons we felt he is best placed to lead the team,” Kimanzi said.
Defender Joseph Okumu who recenty completed a move to Swedish Top tier side IF Elfsborg together with Wazito FC’s Bernard Ochieng will also miss the match. Striker Jesse Were is also a doubt for the match with a suspected hamstring problem.
