Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman is set to be confirmed as the new Barcelona manager, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Koeman was spotted leaving Barcelona on Sunday on a private flight.
According to La Sexta, Koeman was in Barcelona for the weekend and it is believed that he met with Barcelona chiefs led by President Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Bartomeu already confirmed that coach Quique Setien is on his way out of Camp Nou after a disastrous campaign that saw Barcelona go trophy-less and were humiliated by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
According to Spanish football expert Balague, former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was also approached, but ex-Barca player Koeman remains the most preferred candidate.
“They have to choose a manager because in two weeks time pre-season starts – and the talk is Koeman could be the man.
“He said no to an offer in January, but this is different. I think his health situation may have played a part. Discussions may be taking place, we may hear tomorrow, but he will need to separate from the national side so there is still a wait for that to happen” Balague told BBC 5 Live Euro Leagues podcast.
