Southampton rejected an attempt by Chelsea to acquire midfielder Romea Lavia. It is understood that a £50million was logged by the Blues and turned down by the south coast side, who wanted to keep the 18-year-old for the 2022-23 season.  The sale would have seen The Saints make a £38m profit less than two months after signing him.

Lavia was signed for Southampton barely two months ago from champions Manchester City in the recently conclude summer transfer window for £12million.

Lavia, who plays as a holding midfielder, was well regarded at the Etihad and some at the club believe he will one day be at the required level to play in their first team.

The Belgian made his debut for Southampton in the 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur this season, but has since gone on to make 5 appearances. His only goal came in spectacular fashion, scoring from long-range in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
