Simba SC are the champions of the Azam Cup (ASFC) this season after winning 1-0 against Yanga in the final match played on Sunday, July 25 at Lake Tanganyika Stadium, Kigoma.

This is the second time in a row that Simba have won the title as they did so last season by beating Namungo in the final match played at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Sumbawanga.

This is the third trophy for Simba this season after winning the Community Shield and the Tanzania Mainland Premier League title.

The first half ended in a draw (0-0) with Yanga defending after midfielder Tunombe Mukoko was shown a straight red card for fouling Simba captain John Bocco.

Also for Simba Clatous Chama was shown a yellow card after he was seen arguing with the referee.

In the 58th minute, Kenya’s Joash Onyango was shown a yellow card after pushing Yacouba Songne of Yanga in the middle of the pitch.

Simba made a change in the 68th minute by replacing Rally Bwalya with Benard Morrison and Yanga responding in the 75th minute with Fiston Abdoul replacing Yacouba.

Yanga made another change in the 77th minute with Fareed Mussa coming on for Ditram Nchimbi.

In the 79th minute, Taddeo Lwanga scored Simba’s first and only goal of the game after a header from a Miquissone corner. The goal was enough to win Simba the match.
