Tanzanian giants Simba SC beat Namungo FC 2-0 to win the new season’s curtain raiser, the Community Shield.
Simba went ahead in the 7th minute after captain John Bocco scored a penalty following a foul on new signing Bernard Morrison.
Morrison, who joined from Yanga SC, then scored Simba’s second in the 60th minute with a fine strike.
Sunday’s win means Simba have won the Community Shield four consecutive times.
The game saw former Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango start for the ‘Wekundu Wa Msimbazi’ and in the process get his first winners medal at Simba.
Another Kenyan, Francis Kahata did not make it to the match-day squad while Meddie Kagere started from the bench.
Simba will now turn their attention to defending the Vodacom Premier League as well as performing well in the CAF Champions League.
