The day is finally here! The highly anticipated ‘Kariakoo’ derby pitting Tanzanian sides Yanga SC and Simba SC will go down at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Kenya will be represented by ex-Gor Mahia players Joash Onyango and Francis Kahata while Yanga SC has in its books former Bandari FC custodian Farouk Shikalo.
This is Onyango’s first ever ‘Kariakoo’ derby while Shikalo and his Yanga side will be looking to revenge their 4-1 loss when the two sides last met in the FA Cup semifinal in July.
Onyango has enjoyed a fine start to life at Simba with the Kenyan International playing all the games this season. Kahata has been in and out of the squad while Shikalo has at times had to play second choice at Yanga.
Simba is also home to Ex-K’Ogallo man Meddie Kagere.
Saturday’s game will be the fourth meeting between both sides this calendar year, with each team having won once and one game ended in 2-2 draw.
Yanga has had a great start to the Vodacom Premier League this season having won seven times and drew twice in their nine fixtures.
Simba has lost twice in the same number of matches.
Simba won it’s last game against Kagera Sugar 2-0 while Yanga shared the spoils with Gwambina FC after a 0-0 score.
The “Kariakoo derby” was rescheduled from 18 October to 7 November to give both teams enough time to prepare.
Who will regin supreme? Will it be Onyango and Kahata or Shikalo?
