Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia began their 2019/20 season campaign on a lofty note with a historic 5-2 victory over Tusker FC on Saturday at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

A brace from Kenneth Muguna and a solitary strike from Charles Momanyi, Nicholas Kipkirui, and Boniface Omondi were enough for Gor Mahia to start their defense for the league title on a comfortable pace.

Their convincing win was facilitated by several occurrences, some of which we’ll talk about in this article.

Kenneth Muguna led by example

Saturday’s match was one of the few finest matches the Green Army have ever played; both locally and internationally. The squad was well organised with a pulsating move and collaboration.

This was enhanced by Gor’s captain, who played a huge role in bringing the heads together and connecting players through his accurate and complete passes from defense to strikers.

Muguna’s brace, particularly the well-calculated second goal, was a thing to emulate.

Boniface Omondi’s silencer

Diminutive midfielder Boniface Omondi has made himself a significant figure in Gor Mahia squad and was one of the stars that summed up the world-class show displayed by the Green Army against the Brewers.

Omondi put the icing on the cake with a close-range finish making it 5-2 in the 90 +1 minute after several attempts. This was deemed incredible as only a few midfielders give their opponents a run for their money. He did it!

Wellington Ochieng’s race, down the right-wing

Gor Mahia’s right-back defender Wellington Ochieng proved to be a dependable player at the right-wing with his unpredictable movement along the side. He was comfortable on the ball and adept at getting into attacking positions as a wing-back, where he delivered crosses to teammates.

In their match against the Brewers, Ochieng’s constant move earned Gor a penalty when he was fouled in the box while attacking for K’Ogalo. The goal was then scored through a rebound after Tusker FC’s goalkeeper Robert Mboya had saved the initial kick by Muguna, who took the penalty.

Generally, Gor Mahia managed to outgun the well-drilled Tusker through their quality display and proper co-ordination right from their leadership.
