Harambee Stars might have had the last laugh after the highly anticipated East Africa Derby between Kenya and Tanzania but that should not take away the fact that the boys still have a daunting task ahead.
Attention now shifts to the next Match against Senegal with both teams tied on 3 points. The Terenga Lions however have a superior Goal Difference.
Ahead of the July 1st clash, Kenyan Captain Victor Wanyama has said that the game will be a ‘Final’ and that they will do all it takes to bag a win.
The task won’t be an easy one owing to the fact that Senegal lost to Algeria, a loss that all but put’s their qualification to the next round in doubt.
The two teams will be meeting for the fourth time at the Group Stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Wanyama has now called on Kenyan fans to keep rallying behind the team ahead of the ‘final’ as the team aims to build on the confidence got from the 3-2 win over Tanzania.
“That game is a final for us and we will hopefully put everything and fight for everything to make sure we get something as well. Now we have confidence going into the next match,” Said Wanyama.
“Fans showed fantastic support and they have been with us from the beginning until the end. Let them continue supporting us.”
Wanyama has also highlighted the importance of the win against neighbours Tanzania saying it will help boost the morale at the Kenyan Camp even further.
“It has been difficult for us as we started badly but today [Thursday] we bounced back. We trailed twice but showed great spirit and what we are about as we fought back. When everyone is at it we are a very good team,” Concluded Wanyama.
Kenya will be looking to make amends after a 3-0 loss to Senegal last time out at the 2004 AFCON showpiece.
A win for either sides will guarantee them a place in the Knockout Stages.
