Kenya Premier League newbies Wazito Fc’s transfer business is far from over. Just hours after confirming the signing of attacking midfielder Michael Oduor from Sofapaka FC, the KPL moneybags have yet again sealed a move for Johnstone Omurwa who has rejoined the club from Mathare United.
Omurwa first joined Wazito in January 2017 after completing his secondary school education at Butere High School. He featured for Wazito for a season mostly as a defensive midfielder. He returns to Wazito having now established himself as a reliable central defender.
He moved to Mathare in January 2018 and went on to become a key player for the Slum Boys in his two seasons there. His good performances have seen him develop to a key player for the Kenya U23 team and recently he earned a call-up to the senior national team for 2020 CHAN qualification matches against Tanzania.
Wazito’s Sporting director Solomon Alubala could not hide his joy following Omurwa’s decision to return ‘home’.
“I am happy that he agreed to return home, he is a good player and his addition makes the team stronger. He played a key role in our promotion to the Kenyan Premier League in 2017 but unfortunately, he was not part of the team in the top tier. I think he has also matured for the last two years, he is now a national team player but still young so he will definitely improve further. He will be part and parcel of the exciting project we are undertaking,” Alubala told the club website.
On his part, Omurwa stated that he was looking forward to the new season as he is now a better player than before.
“Wazito gave me a chance to play club football and I am happy to be back here. I have returned home and I will give my best to the team. I think I have matured more as a player now and I am looking forward to the new season,” he stated.
Wazito begin their KPL Campaign on August 31st with a clash against Millers Nzoia Sugar at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Wazito have had a busy transfer window that has seen them complete the signings of Elvis Rupia from Power Dynamo FC, Abouba Sibomana and Karim Nizigiyimana Fformerly of Gor Mahia, Derrick Otanga, Joshua Otieno and Kelvin Omondi from Sony Sugar FC, Pistone Mutamba & Michael Oduor from Sofapaka, Gad Mathews from Kariobangi Sharks, Bernard Ochieng from Vihiga United and Kenya U17 keeper Bixente Otieno.
