Record time Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia have won the heart of Wazito FC President Ricardo Badoer who has been impressed with how the KPL giants are handling their current Financial constraints.
Gor Mahia is set to take on Algerian side USM Alger in a crunch CAF Champions League match but all has not been well in their camp. The Club is currently grappling with the lack of finances to help facilitate it’s day to day running following the decision by their Sponsor Sportpesa to terminate sponsorship following unending tax wars with the government.
The Club has however come up with alternative ways to raise cash to help the team honour it’s CAF fixture in Algeria. One of those ways included holding a fundraiser on Tuesday to help raise cash to facilitate the Algeria trip.
The fundraiser did not yield much with the club only managing to raise around 300,000. Other sources also indicate that the club raised slightly over 1.5 Million with the officials failing to reveal the exact amount raised from the fundraiser.
Irregardless of what was raised, Wazito FC President Ricardo Badoer has been moved by Gor Mahia’s ‘Never Say Die’ attitude. Ricardo has been impressed with how Kogallo are handling the hard times that have recently knocked their door.
“Football world I am sure is impressed once more by how well Mighty Gor is handling the hard times! We are all behind you,” Said Ricardo while reacting to news that Gor Mahia’s fundraiser did not yield much as expected.
This is not the first time Ricardo Badoer is showing support to Gor Mahia. On Monday, while reacting to news that Gor Mahia officials were appealing for financial support to help run the club, Ricardo Badoer stressed that in as much as times were hard for the Club, he believed that it’s fans will bail it out.
“Very Sad to read this. But I know Gor has great fans and they will make sure Gor can live to fight another day,” He Said.
Gor Mahia have confirmed that the team will travel to Algeria on Thursday
“Gor Mahia will be hitting the run-way to Algeria tomorrow (Thursday) at midnight aboard Qatar Airways. The team will be facing USM Alger in a CAF Champions League match on Saturday from 7pm EAT. All the best team,” Read a Statement by Gor Mahia.
The travelling squad for the USM Alger assignment has also been revealed with Captain Kenneth Muguna leading coach Steven Pollack’s Charges.
Should they go past USM and qualify for the CAF Champion League group stage, K’Ogalo will become the first team to achieve the feat that comes with heavy financial gain.
Gor qualified for CAF Champions League first round after beating Burundian side, Aigle Noir in the preliminary round.
