Yanga SC beat rivals Simba SC to lift the Community Shield in a match staged at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Yanga scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute through their striker Fiston Mayele who produced a powerful shot that beat Simba goalkeeper Aishi Manula.

It was all attack for Yanga who threw everything they had at Simba and they were eventually rewarded just 13 minutes into the match.

Kenyan International Joash Onyango was replaced in the 31st minute by Kenneth Juma after he suffered a head injury following a collision with teammate Chris Mugalu.

In the second half, Simba started the better side after Didier Gomes made changes by replacing midfielder Hassan Dilunga with captain John Bocco.

Chris Mugalu almost drew Simba level in the 48th minute but saw his shot go wide.

Yanga then made changes by replacing Farid Musa with Yacouba Sogne in the 70th minute before goal scorer Fiston Mayele was replaced by Heritier Makambo.

With 4 minutes left, Simba midfielder Taddeo Lwanga received a red card after fouling Yanga’s Feisal Salum.

Simba replaced Sadio Kanoute, Mzamiru Yassin, Mohamed Hussein ‘Tshabalala’ with Pape Sakho, Peter Banda and Israel Patrick Mwenda to try get something from the match but it was too late as Yanga held firm to secure victory.

Simba and Yanga will meet again in the Mainland Premier League on December 11.

Yanga have now won the Tanzanian Community Shield six times.
